attempting to swap out a new sealed-in-the-box Airport Extreme Base Station (Model A1521 6th Gen) and it has been a nightmare. At this point the AE looks like a dud given that I have ruled out all the components in the network (router, cable, setup device), but I am wondering if I've possibly missed something. with an Airport Extreme Base Station (Model A1143 2nd Gen). This AE is the second generation N-enabled MB321Z/A. If you dont, it will flash amber forever and ever. If you accept the option, the AirPort Express will display a green light.

The router I am using is a Zytel PK5000Z. Click on the small amber dot next to the message about No Internet Connection and you will see an option to 'ignore' that 'notice'. If you set up your AirPort Express as a base station and connect it to the Internet, wireless computers can also share the Internet connection. This is not likely to be a router issue, since I have taken the router 'out of the chain' by directly connecting my Mac to the AE via Ethernet (so once again, not the cable) and then completing the setup over WiFi. Bob, if I am correct the AE does not need to have a hardwired connection once it is setup to connect to a preexisting WiFi network so the Ethernet cable is clearly not the issue. Oddly enough, the router doesn't recognize that an AE is connected to it after the setup.

Release the reset button after the hold period, and allow a full minute for the Express to restart to a slow, blinking amber light.

In both instances, after I complete the setup and update the settings on the AE, I get a solid amber light and the connection from whatever device I'm using times out. Hold in the reset button first, and keep holding it in for another 8-10 seconds while you simultaneously plug the Express back into power. The former setup requires a hard-wired connection during the initial setup process, the latter does not. Nor it this an issue of a bad Ethernet cable, since I've tried setting this AE up both as an independent network AND having it connect my preexisting WiFi network - to extend it. So it really is not an issue of not having Airport utility on the Mac or the iPad installed. AirPort Utility helps you set up your AirPort Express to create a wireless network, connect to the Internet, and share a USB printer. The issue is not that I cannot set up the Airport Express, it is that once I've completed the initial setup process and customized a network name/password that the reconnect from whatever device I've used to initially set it up fails. Click AirPort in the toolbar, and then, click Wireless. Enter the base station password if necessary.

Choose Manual Setup from the Base Station menu, or double-click the base station to open the configuration in a separate window. Hmm, I thought this was pretty clear from my original post. Open AirPort Utility, and then, select the base station that will connect to the Internet.
